Minjie had graduation today - even though he was done in December - yay! Those older people are his aunt and uncle who flew from China to come see him!
Dog reactivity - MAJOR progress
Lara met 6 dogs today on leash and she didn’t have reactions to any of them (no hackles, no barking) though she did excitedly pull towards them I am much happier with that. She barked at one yappy dog that barked at her first, which I am also okay with. Also, a friend brought their dog to our apartment for a bit and Lara had never met it but she was totally cool with the dog laying in our apartment :D
So much progress!!! This is fantastic. I wasn’t embarrassed to walk her down the street today because dogs we passed she wasn’t barking like a complete idiot. She even laid by me at Panera next to a little fence and some dogs walked by and she wagged and sniffed them :))))
Dog park seemed to have really helped her realize that dogs are pretty cool, especially seeing all the dogs approach the dog park while on lead
I always have ziploc bags in my pockets from carrying dog treats around and yesterday I went to this buffet restaurant, they had this horrible roast beef that had no sauce and was dry and was basically just a slab of meat. I cut a slice off the size of my hand, put it in my bag, and Lara acted like she had the best dinner ever :P

Proud of Lara today. she kept her cool when 2 portuguese water dogs approached and didn’t bark at them, she even played with them yayyy.
It seems like my daily desensitization is making her dog reactivity on walks decrease a little bit. She’s learning to keep her mouth shut a little bit and that barking doesn’t allow her to meet them. Baby steps!
(and just for people that glance at these updates posts , reactivity =/= aggression. she is not aggressive, she just responds inappropriately to seeing dogs, ie., barking and pulling until she gets to greet them or until they leave.)
Lara had a blast with her GSD friend Annie today. We took them for a walk and then let them play. 3 hours later, I am tired, Lara is tired.
Every time they have seen each other they are instantly allowed to play. We set up play dates, not walks, so as soon as they saw each other today (on a busy streetcorner) they started lunging and play bowing and it was sooo hard to calm them down to actually WALK. Annie started hooting and yelping like a monkey because she was mad at the leash, and Lara started yelping too because they wanted to play sooooo bad. All these people walking by saw these GSDs pulling toward eachother, jumping up, whining, and acting like nutcases and they were giving us the worst looks lol.
GSDs are soooooooooooo vocal, it’s ridiculous. They ended up calming down and enjoying themselves, but leashing two bff girls that are full of insane energy and not letting them have their usual meet and greet wrestle was a challenge. Well, not every meeting is play time, but next time I’m not doing that right after Lara wakes up from a good long nap :P
Here’s our progress for the past few days on learning heel. I should have left her on a leash, but I’m not focusing on the nitty gritty right now (sloppy sits, etc), mainly just the eye contact. I think she’s doing pretty well. We’ve been getting the spins down a little better on the touch pad too, yay.

so I bought a leather leash and a nylabone ~27 bucks, got that ‘free super saver’ shipping thing amazon does which takes “5-8 days” HOWEVER the things I want happen to be in a warehouse 4 hours away so my ship estimate is tomrrow lol, free one day shipping?!
My bf’s job is so cool. They’re paying for all the employees + significant other (hello, ME) to go to an all inclusive trip to the Dominican Republic. YAYYYY :D
Spent the first half of my 21st bday walking my dog and playing with her on campus. Then I had lunch with Christine, and now I have puppy class in a little while, followed by a dinner at PF Changs with Minjie. :] HOpefully I can cram Game of Thrones ep 2 into tonight after dinner, we have to go eat at 9 because of puppy class.
It’s a good day. I also got a free large drink at starbucks mauahaha
